Maroubra Childcare Centre Attack
The constant attacks on the Jewish community are absolutely intolerable.
This morning, Australians woke to the news of a childcare centre in South Sydney being targeted with anti-Semitic graffiti before being torched. This follows regular attacks on Jewish Australians in East Sydney.
Any attack on a minority group should not be tolerated in Australia, let alone a constant campaign to intimidate Jewish Australians.
The consistency of the attacks on the Jewish community should be called out for what they are, criminal acts of terror.
The weak leadership of the Albanese Labor Government has laid the groundwork for these ongoing attacks.
Labor’s refusal to provide leadership and drive proper law enforcement risks the very fabric of Australia’s multicultural society.
Since November 2023, Peter Dutton and the Coalition have consistently called on Labor to convene a National Cabinet meeting to combat anti-Semitism and extremism, but for 14 months Labor refused to listen.
If elected, a Dutton Coalition Government will:
- Strengthen the sentencing regime for terrorism by legislating for a mandatory minimum term of 6 years imprisonment for all acts of terrorism under Commonwealth law.
- Amend draft laws currently before the parliament to make it a hate crime to urge or threaten violence towards a place of worship; punishable by imprisonment for 5 years or 7 years in the case of an aggravated offence.
- Introduce mandatory minimum sentences of 12 months imprisonment for the public display of prohibited Nazi symbols, prohibited terrorist organisation symbols, and giving the Nazi salute in public, and increase the maximum penalty to 5 years imprisonment.
A Dutton Coalition Government will take the strong action required to end the vile scourge of anti-Semitism afflicting our country which has festered for too long and which threatens the safety of our communities.
Enough is enough.
