Statement -- Big Tech Inquiry Issues Paper and Call for Submissions
07 December 2022 Today, the Senate Economics References Committee has released an Issues Paper for the Big Tech Inquiry and is calling for submissions in response. The Big Tech Inquiry was established by the Senate on 26 September 2022, to examine the level of influence that international Big Tech platforms have in our society and economy. In particular, the Big Tech Inquiry is focused on examining the power and influence of the ‘Big Five’ technology companies. During the initial phase of the Inquiry, the Committee is mapping the different activities undertaken by Big Tech platforms. The Issues Paper released today provides an overview of topics that will be examined in further detail, during the course of the Inquiry. The Big Tech Inquiry is calling for written submissions in response to the Issues Paper.
