Housing Australia’s 11th Hour Scramble a Farce

To save themselves from humiliation at Senate Estimates, Labor has made a bizarre last-minute announcement about their Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) boondoggle.
The HAFF has been law for 18 months now. It is inconceivable that it would take so long to roll out this scheme.
Labor is now claiming the HAFF has built a few hundred houses. This is despite Senator Wong informing the Senate two weeks ago the HAFF hadn’t completed a single house.
Ms Wong told the Senate, “that 24,000 homes are in the pipeline through direct Commonwealth investment, including 13,700 under round 1 of the HAFF.”
The HAFF tender process has been a shambles and shrouded in secrecy with non-disclosure agreements.
With an election imminent, the Albanese Labor Government is deflecting from the fact that new housing completions have collapsed under their watch.
Labor has created a housing nightmare. They’ve built bureaucracy. Not houses. Maybe a few but who really knows?
Today’s announcement doesn’t alter the fact that the HAFF is hopeless.
