The Information Commissioner has forced the release of new documents under FOI which demonstrates Big Super’s attempts to destroy the Australian Dream.

In another integrity issue for Labor, the Treasurer Jim Chalmers and super fund Cbus have engaged in a cover up and made false claims. The documents reveal the deep ambition of super funds to become corporate landlords.

Thanks to the Information Commissioner, we can now confirm the wicked ambition of super funds to become Australia’s corporate landlords.

Cbus and Wayne Swan sought a special deal to exempt funds from reporting the cost of their corporate housing plan to their members. Their special deal would have covered up the costs of stamp duty in their residential real estate transactions.

Jim Chalmers was so concerned about these documents being made public that he filed a public interest immunity claim last year to prevent their release.

His claim was demonstrably false. There was no commercial in confidence material to justify the Treasurer’s public interest immunity claim.

The only ‘commercial secret’ Labor was trying to hide was the putrid rent-seeking by super funds as part of a corporate housing plan. Cbus was lobbying the government. It was not providing commercial information.

Australians already know that Labor doesn’t want more first home buyers. They are more interested in corporate housing.

Instead of working to conceal Big Super’s corporate housing agenda, Labor should re-prioritise individual home ownership.
